Dundee Sheriff Court and Justice of the Peace Court

Dundee Sheriff Court building was designed in 1833 by local architect George Angus. It was completed 30 years later and has served Dundee ever since. It was extensively renovated in 1996 and opened by the Princess Royal the next year. The Justice of the Peace Court is attached to the main building. Dundee Sheriff Court hears the majority of local cases unless they are serious enough to proceed to the Supreme Court at first instance. The Justice of the Peace Court deals with less serious summary cases.

Perth Sheriff Court and Justice of the Peace Court

Perth Sheriff Court and Justice of the Peace Court are jointly housed in the Court House building on Tay Street. The building was designed by English architect Sir Robert Smirke and stands on the site of Gowrie House. The Court House has five court rooms and three resident Sheriffs: Sheriff Foulis, Sheriff Tait and Sheriff Wood. The Sheriff Court will deal with a variety of cases across three types of business: Criminal, Civil and Commissary. The Justice of the Peace Court hears less serious summary cases. These cases do not involve a jury and are heard by a justice of the peace, who sits alone or in a bench of three.
